США стали объектом нападения со стороны внутреннего врага. Этот враг, тонко разбирающийся в теории игр, целится в самую чувствительную область национальной безопасности США, а именно: в отношения США с другими государствами.

Публикация в интернете 250 тысяч документов, относящихся к американской дипломатической переписке, стала скандально известной благодаря тому, что в ней есть и чего нет. Чтобы определить, стал ли последний слив делом рук разведки, аналитики должны проверить наиболее «пикантные» документы, которые явно предназначались для того, чтобы ухудшить отношения США с другими государствами.

Чтобы определить источник их происхождения, аналитики должны ответить на ключевой вопрос: кому это выгодно? Есть одна подсказка: оскорбительные сведения о турецких руководителях были опубликованы сразу после того, как те в конце октября потребовали у США не передавать более Тель-Авиву данные турецкой разведки. Подобное требование со стороны ценного союзника знаменует собой серьезный шаг на пути изолирования «Израиля». Вероятно, в не столь отдалённом будущем речь может зайти о том, чтобы США приостановили «израильские» операции в 16 американских разведслужбах, в Белом доме и в комитетах по разведке в Палате представителей и в Сенате. Тель-Авиву, естественно, это не нравится.

Турки по-прежнему возмущены: ведь никто не понёс ответственности за совершенное «израильскими» коммандос убийство девяти турецких граждан на борту захваченного в международных водах гуманитарного судна, направлявшегося в осажденную Газу с гуманитарной помощью. А может быть, публикация стала местью в духе Тель-Авива? Может, WikiLeaks является просто внешним проявлением «израильской» дезинформационной кампании? В чьих интересах стал разрыв отношений между США и Турцией?

Определенная цель

Утечка информации на таком уровне считается утечкой, если это информационный мусор. Если же сведения были намеренно включены или изъяты в зависимости от предполагаемого результата, то можно говорить о разведывательной операции.

Бывший советник по национальной безопасности Збигнев Бжезинский считает, что сегодняшний слив секретной информации буквально «наводнён» сведениями, которые «удивительным образом преследуют определенную цель». Возьмем, к примеру, сообщения, раскрывавшие намерения китайского руководства сотрудничать с США в вопросе объединения Северной и Южной Кореи под руководством Южной Кореи. Эта информация поставила в замешательство китайских руководителей, имела цель испортить отношения между США и Пекином и затруднить объединение двух Корей. С точки зрения теории игр, такой разрушительный результат был вполне предсказуем. Экономика США ещё не оправилась от последствий кризиса, и размолвка с одним из крупнейших партнёров Соединённых Штатов может стать серьёзным ударом по ней и, следовательно, по обороноспособности США.

Язвительные же отзывы об арабских руководителях предназначались для того, чтобы ослабить их политическую репутацию в своих государствах и, в то же время, осложнить отношения за границей. Разоблачив недовольство арабских руководителей действиями Ирана, эта операция обострила противоречия между мусульманами-суннитами и мусульманами-шиитами, являющиеся основным барьером на пути к формированию жизнеспособного правительства в Ираке. Цель совершенно очевидна: не допустить уход США из Ирака и увеличить американские людские потери и материальные затраты.

Вскоре после того, как Вашингтон дал согласие Эр-Рияду на приобретение боевых самолетов и оружия на сумму 60 млрд. долларов на многолетний период, в сети появились документы, компрометирующие руководителей Саудовской Аравии. Тель-Авиву это не понравилось. Безусловно, доверие как к Саудовской Аравии, так и к США было подорвано.

Прозрачность представляет самую большую опасность

Вы думаете, Тель-Авив пришел в ужас? Разве мог «Израиль» после шести десятилетий беспрерывных провокаций и изображений себя вечной жертвой потерять шансы на успех? Сионизм стоит перед лицом экзистенциальной угрозы, исходящей вовсе не от Ирана или «исламо-фашистов», как их называет Тель-Авив. Кто же слил секретную информацию? Кому это было выгодно? Ответ, я думаю, очевиден...

What is Tel Aviv to do now that it's known Israelis and pro-Israelis ‘fixed' the intelligence that induced the U.S. to war in Iraq?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Con me consistently for six decades and the relationship is over, as is Israel's credibility as a legitimate nation state.

Tel Aviv knows this. But what can the Zionist state do about it?

Answer: Wikileaks.

Why now? Misdirection.

Shine the spotlight on Washington to take it off Tel Aviv. That's good old-fashioned psy-ops. And challenge the credibility of the U.S. That's Wikileaks.

Any credible forensics would start by asking: to whose benefit? Then look to means, motive and opportunity plus the presence of stable nation-state intelligence inside the U.S.

Other than Israel, who else is a credible candidate? Notice how quickly Israel's role in the peace process vanished from the news. Now it's Iran, Iran and more Iran. To whose benefit?

Tel Aviv knows that the phony intelligence on Iraq leads to those skilled at waging war "by way of deception"-the motto of the Israeli Mossad.

Wikileaks are noteworthy for what's missing: the absence of any material damaging to Israeli goals.

But still Tel Aviv faces an unprecedented peril: transparency. Americans know they were duped. And Israel rightly fears that Americans will soon realize by whom.

Tepid Support will not Suffice

Obama has behaved as anticipated by those who produced his presidency. Anyone surprised at the lack of change in U.S. policy in the Middle East fails to grasp the power of the Israel lobby.

Did he hesitate to support their latest Israeli strategy for scuttling peace negotiations? Absent peace, the U.S. will continue to be the target of those outraged at America's unflinching support for Israel's thuggish behavior in pursuit of its expansionist goals.

Confirming the lobby's influence, Netanyahu announced he would not agree to halt settlements on Palestinian land until Obama reduced to writing a $3 billion bribe.

In return for a proposed 90-day freeze, what form of bribe will America provide? Twenty F-35 jets at $150 million each plus parts, maintenance, training and armaments.

That's $231 million per week or $1,373,626 per hour. What will the U.S. receive in return? A temporary partial freeze on settlements. How many more times can this ruse work?

Israel has evaded a peace agreement since it drove Palestinians from their land in 1948 and seized more land in 1967 to shape today's geopolitics.

Should Israel reach an agreement with the Palestinians, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proposes a "comprehensive security agreement." At what cost no one knows. The U.S. Congress has already budgeted $30 billion for Israel over 10 years. This latest $3 billion is on top of that.

That doesn't include the cost to American credibility posed by an offer to veto U.N. recognition of Palestine as a state. And a pledge Never Again to pressure Israel on settlements. Plus the freeze omits East Jerusalem where Tel Aviv insists on moving ahead with new housing starts.

Timing Is Everything

By scheduling its latest incursion into Gaza between Christmas 2008 and the January 2009 Obama inaugural, Tel Aviv ensured only muted opposition during political down time in the U.S. Thus it came as no surprise to see an agent provocateur operation on Thanksgiving Day 2010 as Israel demolished a West Bank Mosque and a Palestinian village.

After seven hours of nonstop talks, Hillary Clinton praised Netanyahu as a "peacemaker." In return, he agreed only to "continue the process." Meanwhile, U.S. elections marked a major victory for Israel when incoming Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, a Jewish Zionist, announced that the new majority would "serve as a check on the Obama administration."

The Israel lobby has good reason to gloat. Confirming ongoing duplicity, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman proclaimed: "a permanent agreement is impossible."

Wikileaks' release of confidential diplomatic cables provides Israel an opportunity to undermine U.S. relations worldwide while also inflicting lasting damage on U.S. interests in the Middle East. After this, what nation would trust the U.S. to maintain a confidence?

In October, Turkey asked that the U.S. not share intelligence with Israel. Now who dares share intelligence with the U.S.?

This may signal the beginning of the end for the Obama presidency his domestic policy failures are eclipsed by his failures in foreign policy.

This may also signal pre-staging for the 2012 presidential primary with a weakened Obama forced to name Clinton as his running mate or stepping aside so she can lead the ballot.

Her 2008 presidential campaign promised recognition of Israel as a "Jewish state" and promised an "undivided Jerusalem as the capital." Tel Aviv was elated. A second Clinton presidency would ensure another victory for Israel-and no peace.

Tariq Shadid – Wikileaks leaks toxic acid in every direction, except to Israel

Let us ponder for a second about the meaning of 'leaking'. When something is leaking, it is usually understood that some fluid substance that is supposed to be flowing in a certain direction, is escaping from its designed route because of a defect in the structure that was built to guide it. Usually, if you have a leaking pipe in your water system, your main problem is that you are unable to control the flow of it, and water goes into directions where you don't want it to be going.

However, the definition of 'Wikileaking' seems to be following entirely different laws of nature. Indeed, the information is flowing away from the secret pipelines it was originally guided into. However, the strange thing about 'Wikileaking' is that Israel, a country widely known for its secret dealings and cunning intelligence service, is managing to keep dry feet in spite of the massive political flooding allegedly caused by Wikileaks' founding father, Julian Assange.

The lack of control that is so typical of other forms of 'leaking', certainly does not seem to apply to 'Wikileaking' – instead it looks like it is under perfect control, and carefully guided in such a way that it only serves the interests of one state, namely that of Israel.

Assange takes a leak, the world jumps up

Barely a country in the world that is actively involved in Middle East and other international affairs, either by choice or by geographical location, has been spared by Assange's latest opening of his Pandora's box of revelations. It is hard to visit a news source these days, without the word 'Wikileaks' jumping into your view at least once, and revealing some scandalous backdoor deal, secret agreement or embarrassing hidden relationship between governments who on the surface seem to be diametrically opposed to each other in the political spectrum.

Since the list of countries that have faced these embarrassments includes Obama's United States, many anti-imperialist activists around the world have been anxiously awaiting the latest leaks, and are now engaging in discussions about the implications of many of these so-called astounding revelations. Julian Assange is being hailed worldwide by people who are critical of their governments as the activist who was able to embarrass governments, helped only by a small group of independent supporters. His star is rising rapidly, and although sounds of cynicism can be heard here and there, the overwhelming noise resounding in progressive circles is one of loud cheers for this long-awaited 'champion of the ordinary man'.

What many seem to fail to be noticing however, is that although the list of countries that were painfully embarrassed by the publication of their secret cables, memo's and meetings, includes the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, Egypt and the United States – where Obama is suffering from serious problems from a 'Tea Party' he was not invited to – one of the main actors in the dirty political game of Middle East animosities and alliances is remaining completely unharmed: Israel.

Much ado about old news

What are Wikileaks telling us? That Saudi Arabia poured oil on the flames against Iran? We already knew that. That Abbas' administration as well as the Egyptian government were very well informed about Israel's genocidal military assault on Gaza in the winter of 2009? There is nothing new about that either. The list goes on and on, and the main victims of embarrassment are leaders of Arab governments. But what is so new about that? Doesn't almost every Arab in the world who reads newspapers, watches Al Jazeera and has a certain degree of understanding of Middle East politics, already know about the extent and scope of secret relations in the region? Even many people living outside of the Arab world are largely aware of this.

Oana Lungescu, spokeswoman for NATO, called Wikileaks' revelations about the presence of American nuclear missiles in Europe – mainly the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany – 'dangerous' on November 29. Why exactly would something be dangerous, if it is a commonly known fact that has now only been confirmed yet again? Didn't earlier revelations have no effect, so why would these new ones do that? Does the fact that Obama, Sarkozy, and the Chinese leadership all have condemned Wikileaks and its founder, make any significant difference?

The answer to these questions is: yes, these revelations are indeed causing unpleasant domestic situations all around the world, and creating electoral problems and other political embarrassments for governments everywhere – except in one place, namely Israel.

No worries: Assange will tell you who to trust

Julian Assange, 'master revealer' of international conspiracies, apparently also is highly irritated by people questioning the events of 9/11. In an interview in the Belfast Telegraph on July 19, 2010, he was asked about the 9/11 attack, and answered: "I'm constantly annoyed that people are distracted by false conspiracies such as 9/11, when all around we provide evidence of real conspiracies, for war or mass financial fraud."

Apparently Julian 'Robin Hood' Assange finds the story of pilots who fly an airplane full of people straight into a humongous skyscraper full of unsuspecting citizens, just because some hysterical hijacker is holding a box-cutter against their jugular veins, perfectly believable. He apparently also believes that when you fly an airplane into the top floors of one of the world's largest buildings, in a horizontal direction, the building will not only spontaneously collapse all the way down to its basement in a vertical direction, but will indeed be transformed into a powdery dust, not leaving behind even one piece of debris that is larger than a ballpoint pen – except of course the completely undamaged passport of one of the alleged hijackers, that was miraculously found among the ruins of the World Trade Center.

Unless you, dear reader, also believe in fairy tales, this should certainly make you wonder. So much for your credibility, mr Assange.

Cui Bono?

In politics there is a golden rule for understanding what may be the driving force behind unexpected mysterious events. This rule is known as 'Cui Bono', which is Latin for: 'who benefits?'

Browse through all the news sources available on the latest Wikileaks revelation, and try to find even only one revelation that actually damages Israel, even though so many of the revealed documents are directly or indirectly connected to Middle East politics, and to a large extent to Israeli affairs. Did you find any document among them that either creates difficulties for the government of the zionist entity, or even slightly embarrasses it? Think about it well, you will find that the answer is a very simple "No".

Does it not strike you as interesting or remarkable, that many of the revelations about Middle East affairs are of direct benefit to Israel? If it hasn't, read them again, and give it some thought.

Cui bono? Israel. Therefore, who is the prime suspect behind the phenomenon 'Julian Assange'? You tell me, or just prove me wrong by showing me one Wikileaks document that would make Binjamin Netanyahu and his rogue companions scratch their heads, or even become only slightly uncomfortable. My suspicion grows stronger every day, and is not deterred by Interpol's announcement on December 1 that Julian Assange is wanted for an alleged sexual harassment case in Sweden. It is obvious that he is a man who has angered many people of power, regardless of whether he is actually guilty in that harassment case or not. The problem however is that none of these people of power are Israeli, and that says a lot. You never bite the hand that feeds you, do you, Julian?

‘ZIOLEAKS’ AND PALESTINE ~~ ‘TOP TEN NUGGETS’

Wikileaks, the website set up to be a clearinghouse for classified information leaked through secure online channels, has once again published thousands of leaked documents, this time pertaining to American diplomacy around the world. The leaked reports are in the form of “cables” which are diplomatic communications or reports shared between embassies and U.S. diplomatic officials. The origins of the cables vary from different U.S. embassies around the globe to the Department of State in Washington, D.C. While the communications cover relations with many different countries, a significant portion deals with nations in the Middle East.
This post will focus on the most recent leaks as they relate to Palestine, and below are 10 of the more interesting passages relating to Palestine, the Palestinians and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Note that quotes in the text below are from the documents themselves, which may be paraphrased summaries of conversations and are not necessarily verbatim. There is very little here that should come as a surprise to those closely following the international relations of the Middle East and the politics around Palestine. These documents do, however, provide interesting context and color to these relations that were previously unavailable. Since this seems to be the first part of a large document dump by Wikileaks, I will update this post or create another one as the information becomes available.

Qatar’s Prime Minister met with Senator John Kerry and discussed a variety of issues including Qatar’s views on the Palestinian issue. At the time, the Prime Minister suggested proximity talks which were ongoing between the Israelis and Palestinians would waste time – in his estimate 4-6 months. He also emphasized that negotiations without Hamas are unlikely to be fruitful since the “Palestinian Authority (PA) cannot sign off on an agreement on behalf of the Palestinians where open divisions exist.” To no one’s surprise, Qatar’s PM was not keen on the role Egypt has been playing in the region. Egypt, which has “no end game” in mind when it comes to brokering Hamas-Fatah reconciliation talks, is like a doctor relying on only one patient for business: “the physician is going to keep the patient alive but in the hospital for as long as possible.”

Egypt’s head of General Intelligence Omar Suleiman would provide little evidence to suggest the Qatari leader’s criticism of their biased brokering was untrue. In a conversation with U.S. General Patreaus he stated that “Egypt’s three primary objectives with the Palestinians were to maintain calm in Gaza, undermine Hamas, and build popular support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. ” Suleiman also stated that Egypt would continue to be committed to Palestinian reconciliation. “It is hard,” he said, “but I am always optimistic. I consider myself a patient man, but I am loosing [sic] patience.”

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with U.S. Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) just before becoming prime minister again and forming the current Israeli coalition government. When describing “his approach to ‘economic peace’ with the Palestinians, Netanyahu suggested he would cut through bureaucratic obstacles to Palestinian economic development to build a ‘pyramid’ from the ‘bottom up’ that would strengthen the Palestinian Authority, and offer the Palestinians a viable alternative to radicalism.” He also indicated he wasn’t interested in a sovereign Palestinian state emerging in the West Bank, but rather “an agreement over territory,settlements and ‘refined’ Palestinian sovereignty without an army or control over air space and borders.” Further evidence of Netanyahu’s stance, which he states is not unlike Livni’s, is described in a cable about a meeting between Netanyahu and a Congressional Delegation (CODEL) in late April 2009. He states “A Palestinian state must be demilitarized, without control over its air space and electro-magnetic field, and without the power to enter into treaties or control its borders. Netanyahu concluded that he and opposition leader Tzipi Livni ‘only disagree about the name,’ i.e. the two-state solution.”

An Israeli assessment of Palestinian leadership: “Of particular interest throughout the meetings was the subject of the Palestinian political situation. It was widely agreed that President Abbas is currently in a weakened political state, and Israeli officials generally cast a dour assessment of Abbas’s future. In one exchange, Amos Gilad stated his opinion that Abbas will not survive politically past the year 2011. Gilad further stated that Abbas is facing unprecedented criticism within the Palestinian Authority over his handling of the Goldstone report, and that this, coupled with a stubborn HAMAS, has weakened Abbas considerably. The Israelis said the perception in the Arab world was that the U.S. had encouraged Abbas to take difficult positions on Goldstone and settlements only to walk away from him. ASD Vershbow queried Gilad over measures that could be taken to bolster Abbas. Gilad responded by stating that Israeli-Palestinian peace discussions need to be resumed immediately, but without preconditions, and that both parties need to seek further cooperation on a range of issues — specifically on the security sector front. Gilad expressed optimism over the current atmosphere in the West Bank, citing improvements in the security and economic spheres, and further stated that the reduced Israeli Defense Force (IDF) footprint in the West Bank has made conditions ripe for advancing the relationship.”

This cable, from a 2007 meeting between U.S. Congressmen and Netanyahu, sheds light on Netanayhu’s strategy vis-a-vis Hamas and Fatah: “Netanyahu said Abbas was a ‘nice man who means well,’ but he added that Israel and the U.S. should focus on ‘bringing down Hamas’ through an ‘economic squeeze’…Netanyahu predicted that Palestinians would vote for Abbas if they believe that he can deliver the money. He suggested putting in place an ‘economic squeeze with an address,’ so that Hamas would receive the popular blame.”

Israel-PA consultations before Israeli assault on Gaza? According to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak in this cable: “the GOI had consulted with Egypt and Fatah prior to Operation Cast Lead, asking if they were willing to assume control of Gaza once Israel defeated Hamas. Not surprisingly, Barak said, the GOI received negative answers from both.”

Europeans, particularly the French,are not pleased with their role in peace process: “A sense of frustration and ambition informs the French approach toward the Middle East peace process: they are frustrated that they must rely on the USG and on stubborn parties in the region to end a conflict whose persistence adversely affects their national interests, and they are ambitious to play a larger role in the peace process, in order to facilitate a successful outcome and to enjoy the prestige that such a role would earn them. As a case in point, last week Kouchner had to cancel a planned visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories in part because of the continuing tension there, and in part because of Israel’s refusal to allow him to visit a French hospital in Gaza.”

Germans suggested using Goldstone Reports at UNSC as leverage over Israel’s policy of home demolition: “Heusgen said that Germany ‘perceives this differently’ and thought Netanyahu needed ‘to do more’ in order bring the Palestinians to the negotiating table. With Palestinians in East Jerusalem getting notices from Israeli authorities that their houses will be destroyed, it would be ‘suicide’ for President Abbas to move under the current circumstances. Heusgen said he could not fathom why Netanyahu did not understand this. He suggested pressuring Netanyahu by linking favorable UNSC treatment of the Goldstone Report to Israel committing to a complete stop in settlement activity. Gordon said that making a direct linkage between the two would almost certainly be counterproductive, but agreed that it was worth pointing out to the Israelis that their policy on settlements was making it difficult for their friends to hold the line in the UNSC. Heusgen said this certainly would be an issue when Netanyahu and ‘half of his cabinet’ visit Berlin on November 30 for bilateral government consultations.”

UAE reaction to Hamas 06 election victory: The UAE ‘felt the Muslim Brotherhood rally behind Hamas’ after its electoral victory in the Palestinian territories, and that the Hamas victory should be a lesson to the West. UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid sounded a note of optimism when he told Secretary Rice February 23 that Hamas, ‘with some pressure,’ would understand the need to respect the will of the international community.”

Действительно, утечка, в результате которой достоянием гласности станут 251 278 дипломатических депеш, отправленных в Вашингтон посольствами США за рубежом, и свыше 8 тыс. писем госдепа американским дипломатам в разных странах мира, оказалась беспрецедентной. Нынешняя публикация без сомнения затмит предыдущие разоблачения WikiLeaks о войнах в Афганистане и Ираке.

Причем основатель WikiLeaks Джулиан Ассанж позаботился о том, чтобы мировым СМИ не удалось быстро забыть о «дипломатическом досье», как это произошло с афганским и иракским. Вчера из всего массива данных на специально созданном сайте cablegate.WikiLeaks.org были выложены лишь 226 документов. Если господин Ассанж продолжит выкладывать депеши такими темпами, на публикацию всего архива ему потребуется около трех лет — 1092 дня. Так что пытка для Вашингтона обещает быть долгой и мучительной.

О количестве сенсаций, которые можно извлечь из анализа всего массива депеш, говорит и тот факт, что газеты The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, El Pais и журнал Spiegel, имевшие предварительный доступ ко всему архиву, обещают растянуть публикации на несколько дней. Вчера национальные СМИ активно обсуждали, как именно американские дипломаты описывали их политиков, а в ответ пресс-секретари упомянутых лиц либо все отрицали, либо говорили, что ничего страшного в публикациях непонятного сайта нет. The New York Times посвятила огромный материал тому, как дипломаты США занимаются шпионажем, собирая персональные данные аккредитованных при ООН иностранных дипломатов, включая биометрическую информацию. Прямые приказы заниматься этим отдавала как экс-госсекретарь Кондолиза Райс, так и ее преемница Хиллари Клинтон.


Но главная тема, которой уделили основное внимание все издания, работавшие с архивом несколько недель, совпала. Ей оказался Иран. Это неудивительно. Переписка американских дипломатов рисует кризис вокруг иранской ядерной программы в совершенно новых тонах, а публикация может взорвать ситуацию.


Удар по Ирану


Прежде всего, согласно данным американских дипломатов, у Ирана уже есть ракеты, способные долететь до Москвы или поражать цели на территории Европы. Об этом говорится в депеше, отправленной 24 февраля этого года и содержащей отчет о разговоре сотрудника отдела госдепа по нераспространению Ванна ван Дипена с заместителем главы Совбеза РФ Владимиром Назаровым, который состоялся в декабре 2009 года. В сообщении утверждается, что Тегеран получил от Пхеньяна 19 ракет BM-25, способных доставлять ядерные боеголовки. Радиус действия этих ракет, переделанных из советского прототипа Р-27, составляет свыше 3,2 тыс. км.


Еще более тревожные сведения поступали в Вашингтон с Ближнего Востока. Из картины, которую описывают американские дипломаты, становится ясно, что шиитский Иран ненавидят и подозревают в желании создать атомную бомбу лидеры многих суннитских стран-соседей.

Большинство из них в разговорах с американскими представителями даже требуют нанести по Ирану превентивный удар. Так, король Саудовской Аравии Абдалла призывал Вашингтон «отрезать голову змее, пока еще есть время». С ним солидарен и король Бахрейна Хамад ибн Иса, который в ноябре прошлого года говорил о необходимости любой ценой остановить ядерную программу Тегерана. «Опасность того, что она будет развиваться, намного выше опасности любых последствий попыток ее остановить»,— передают его слова американские дипломаты. Жестких эпитетов удостаивается лично президент Махмуд Ахмадинежад — именно арабские министры, а не американские дипломаты, сравнивают его с Гитлером.


В таком духе о Тегеране, судя по данным архива, отзываются военные и политики многих стран Персидского залива, а некоторые всерьез обсуждали с американцами возможность нанесения Израилем превентивных ударов по объектам иранской ядерной программы. Той же точки зрения придерживается и сам Израиль. Как написал в Вашингтон в мае прошлого года посол США Джеймс Каннингем, министр обороны Израиля Эхуд Барак сказал ему, что у мира есть всего от 6 до 18 месяцев, чтобы предотвратить получение Ираном ядерного оружия.


Вчера официальные лица большинства ближневосточных стран, упомянутых в переписке госдепа США со своими посольствами, предпочли не комментировать рассекреченные депеши. Лишь президент Ирана сказал, что публикация WikiLeaks является американской провокацией и «не сможет испортить добрые отношения между странами региона». Зато израильский премьер Биньямин Нетаньяху заявил, что «впервые среди многих лидеров на Ближнем Востоке и в мире есть понимание, что истинная угроза стабильности — это режим в Иране». Судя по депешам американских дипломатов, эту точку зрения разделяют все большее число политиков, а после разоблачений WikiLeaks число сторонников расправы с Тегераном может возрасти.


Охота на Ассанжа


Если после первых двух публикаций WikiLeaks из Вашингтона уже звучали призывы арестовать и привлечь к суду основателя сайта Джулиана Ассанжа, то после вчерашнего взрыва недоброжелатели призывали чуть ли не линчевать журналиста. «Действия WikiLeaks угрожают всей системе коллективной международной безопасности,— заявил глава комитета сената по национальной безопасности Джозеф Либерман.— Я настоятельно призывают администрацию Обамы — самостоятельно или при помощи других государств мира — использовать все легально доступные методы, чтобы закрыть WikiLeaks до того, как сайт нанесет еще больший ущерб публикацией новых документов».


Конгрессмен-республиканец Петер Кинг высказался еще более жестко. Он потребовал признать WikiLeaks «террористической организацией». «WikiLeaks представляет собой явную угрозу национальной безопасности США,— заявил политик.— Я настоятельно призывают госдепартамент совместно с администрацией президента использовать все доступные правительству США инструменты нападения, чтобы предотвратить дальнейшие вредительские действия со стороны WikiLeaks».


Джулиан Ассанж на данный момент предположительно скрывается в Великобритании. Напомним, что недавно Швеция объявила его в международный розыск по обвинению в изнасиловании и сексуальных домогательствах. А вчера стало известно, что уголовное дело в отношении основателя WikiLeaks уже в ближайшее время могут открыть и власти его родной Австралии. Газета The Washington Post сообщила со ссылкой на генпрокурора Австралии Роберта Маккелланда, что правоохранительные органы этой страны инициировали расследование законности обнародования WikiLeaks тысяч секретных документов. Если прокуратура придет к выводу, что своими действиями Джулиан Ассанж нарушил законы Австралии, ему будут предъявлены официальные обвинения. Журналисты поинтересовались у генпрокурора, соответствует ли действительности появившаяся в прессе информация о том, что власти США отправили Австралии запрос на аннулирование австралийского паспорта господина Ассанжа. Роберт Маккелланд уклончиво ответил, что Австралия рассматривает несколько возможностей реагирования на сложившуюся ситуацию.


Тем временем сторонники Джулиана Ассанжа обратились к мировой общественности с призывом поддержать «его, правду, свободу слова и СМИ и право граждан на информацию о том, что на самом деле творят их правительства». «Это не терроризм. Это демократия в своей самой базовой форме»,— говорится в заявлении сайта в поддержку Джулиана Ассанжа WL Central.

Главный экспортер терроризма

На сайте WikiLeaks, прославившемся публикацией тысяч документов так называемого «афганского досье», появился материал, который затрагивает еще более болезненную для Белого Дома тему, чем война в Центральной Азии.

В распоряжение портала попал документ из архива ЦРУ, в котором рассматриваются информационные последствия экспорта терроризма из США.

Трехстраничный доклад под названием «Что если иностранцы считают США "экспортером терроризма"?» был подготовлен одним из подразделений ЦРУ, отвечающим за разработку альтернативных сценариев. Записка имеет гриф «секретно, не для иностранцев».

В документе, прежде всего, перечисляются некоторые прошлые случаи, когда американские граждане уличались в террористической деятельности или оказании помощи экстремистам. Затем приводятся рассуждения относительно того, насколько осложнятся антитеррористические усилия Вашингтона, если США станут воспринимать за рубежом как «государство-экспортер» экстремистов.

Более того, в отчете указывается, что США давно используются некоторыми боевиками в качестве базы для подготовки терактов в других странах. При этом американские власти в первую очередь обеспокоены террористической деятельностью против США.

Как сообщили американские СМИ, неназванный источник в американской администрации иронично заметил, что этот документ – «не вполне сенсация». И это действительно так – о сотрудничестве американских спецслужб с «исламскими террористами» известно давно: и «Талибан», и «Аль-Каида» буквально выкормлены с руки ЦРУ. То же ведомство организует террористические акты в Иране. Задержанный иранской контрразведкой главарь террористического подполья, действующего на севере страны, получал инструкции на американской базе в Киргизии. Ряд журналистов и исследователей прямо указывают, что группы, устраивающие наиболее кровавые теракты в мечетях, на рынках и улицах Ирака и Афганистана, действуют по заданию и под контролем американских спецслужб.

Примечательно, что Кабульский суд выдал санкцию на арест американского офицера, руководящего одной из таких групп, которая проходит по документам Пентагона, как группа переводчиков. Так что обвинение Вашингтона в экспорте терроризма действительно «не сенсация».

Очевидно, что авторы материала несколько смягчили истинное положение дел. Ведь если учесть тот полицейский и контрразведывательный режим, который существует в США, то станет очевидным, что использование территории этой страны как базы для террористов невозможно без санкции спецслужб. Этот факт даже не нуждается в доказательствах – «переводчики» из «эскадронов смерти», разжигающие гражданскую войну в Ираке и Афганистане, террористы, действующие в Иране и в Синьцзяне, натаскивались на американских базах или при непосредственном участии американских специалистов. Американская администрация и те, кто стоит за ней, делают все возможное для того, чтобы заблокировать всякую информацию об этом. Но, как известно, шило в мешке не утаишь.

И, согласно опубликованному докладу, ЦРУ очень обеспокоено, что …«если США будут рассматривать как экспортера терроризма, зарубежные партнеры могут менее охотно сотрудничать во внесудебных процедурах, в том числе при задержании, перемещении и допросе подозреваемых на территории третьих стран». То есть, могут возникнуть проблемы с организацией тайных тюрем и пыточных застенков на территории третьих стан, транснациональных перемещений похищенных церэушниками людей.

Но эти проблемы будут сущей ерундой по сравнению с теми, которые возникнут после того, как WikiLeaks и подобные ресурсы раскроют перед мировой общественностью подлинную роль США в происходящих на планете трагических процессах.

A Worse Record Than Saddam's

Bad boy Julian Assange, the pretty, blondish founder of the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks was hugely admired when he uncovered oppressors and political chicanery in places like China and Kenya, but now he takes on Western duplicity and crimes. Can't have that. This spawn of Beelzebub, say our masters, a traitor whose insolence is a crime against the secretive states of the US and UK. Disregard the pique and dyspepsia of officialdom. It is a distraction, smoke from fires deliberately started to stop us seeing what lies before us.

The audacious website first released confidential and candid material on the hellish war in Afghanistan and now opens up a new front, more than 400,000 classified US files documenting the previously untold horrors of the Iraq war. Revealed are countless atrocities and the deaths of 66,000 Iraqi civilians at the hands of US and British soldiers and Iraqi personnel who had joined the allies. Men were burnt, some had parts removed, others were killed slowly; women were shot, children too, killed before they grew. Anything goes, it seems, during a military conflict and no questions are asked. As an Israeli army trainer said, when asked about the death of Rachel Corrie, the young, pro-Palestinian activist mown down by an Israeli tank: "During war there are no civilians".

The authorities in Iraq did not investigate reports of abuse and killings. An Iraqi friend tells me the rape of girls, women, boys and men was widespread, a tool used both to intimidate and punish. Apparently, there are images from Abu Ghraib prison of these sadistic "punishments"; they were never released because of the feelings they could arouse in Muslim countries. So morally deformed are these men of war that they care more about inconvenient outrage than they do about crimes against the people they supposedly went to save. They should have heeded the words of Martin Van Creveld, an erudite Israeli war historian who compared the disastrous American Vietnam War with the Iraq adventure:

"He who fights the weak – and the rag-tag Iraqi militias are very weak indeed – and loses, loses. He who fights against the weak and wins, also loses. To kill an opponent who is much weaker than yourself is unnecessary and therefore cruel."

By this reasoning, to fight the weak who are not in any sense your enemy is extreme brutishness and totally self-defeating.

Key figures in the British Army and Government must have been privy to this information. They held their tongues and presumably sidestepped any ethical niggles. The Americans were in command and you don't get to lick the arse of the world's only superpower and then turn round and kick it. That, you understand, is the pact, the unbreakable deal behind our special relationship.

Manfred Novak, the UN special rapporteur on torture, says Obama's administration must investigate and come clean – after all, this President vowed to change the image and behaviour of the US which, for too long, has co-operated with tyrants and violated human rights across the world, including in Guantanamo Bay, which is still open and where captured, lost boys became broken men.

Fewer and fewer global citizens now believe the rapturous anthems and sombre panegyrics of God's own America. After this week, the number will have tumbled further, which, in some ways, is a pity. There is much to praise about the US, its history of perpetual resistance to unacceptable state power, its energy, creativity, business, intellectual and cultural buzz. When such a great nation does great wrong, its mirror is shattered and even if the shards are stuck back together again, the cracks will always remain. And when the custodian of the free world behaves so appallingly, how do we liberal Muslims promote democratic values across the Muslim world?

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (sounding like a clone of Condi Rice) slammed the Wikileaks exposé and warned that lives of US civilians and forces and their allies were now in serious danger. At one level, I fear she is right. The internet traffic over the past two days has been so fast, furious and volatile, it could indeed fuel terrorism, recruitment into jihadi cells, even more violence in unstable Iraq, suicide bombers in Afghanistan and ugly attitudes towards the West, home to millions of Muslims. But keeping the stories hidden was always wrong. Innocent Iraqi people should never have been made to suffer by the allies and even the guilty should have faced due process to prove commitment to justice and decent values. When there was evidence of liberators behaving monstrously, action should have been taken and in the public eye. Clinton must know this, as a lawyer. It is a primary principle of her profession.

I wonder if some staunch supporters of the Iraq war will now think again about the purpose and execution of that illegal and vainglorious expedition. The sanctions and war killed, maimed and destroyed more civilians than Saddam did, even during the most diabolical periods of his rule. Blair, Bush and their armies have never had to face proper, international judicial interrogations. Now imagine good Muslims worldwide, who know all about universal rights, but can see that there is no universal accountability, that Third World despots are made to pay while others earn millions writing autobiographies and lecturing the world on good leadership and governance. Hundreds of savvy, smart, keenly aware young people email me from various Muslim states asking: "What's the point? They say one thing and do the opposite. They say they want to help us and kill our people. Why should we trust the British and Americans?"

What do our army commanders and American leaders advise me to tell these disenchanted Muslims? And Mr Blair, I wonder if he has some wise thoughts? He is, they tell me, still one of the greatest prime ministers this country has had. And his wife, the hot human rights lawyer, does she think these abuses her husband just might have known about should be investigated? No answers will be forthcoming. Those who took us into this
war are not obliged to explain themselves, not liable. In that they are worse than the dictator they toppled. Not comfortable that thought, but true.
